ROAD TO RUIN by Callie HART and Jonny JAMES: Review

Road to RuinRoad to Ruin by Callie Hart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

With Road to Ruin, Callie hart and Jonny James gives us a new promising series. This book was everything I anticipated.

For their first collaboration, those authors plunge us into the New Orleans underground. The atmosphere is dark, gritty, mysterious, violent, and I loved every bit of it. The storyline and the complex characters intrigued me from the beginning, well, even before that, actually, I've been intrigued by this project since I read the chapter in My Sweet Villaintine last winter.

Nikita (what a name, right ? It so fits her!) and Tommy, the MC are fantastic. That woman can stand her ground and take care of herself ; she is smart, sassy, a little «spitfire » Tommy, hot-alpha-bad guy, simply made me swoon !
« I'm a punishment.I'm karmic retribution.I'm the universe's idea of a cruel joke. »
Together, they just detonate. And let me tell you there is that kiss scene.... wow, I'm still recovering, lol...
« I'm going to make her purr. By the time this kiss is over, she's going to be a hot, pliable mess, and I really will be ready to do my worst. »

Alex « the cruel bastard » got my attention, too, I can't wait to learn more about him. I'm still wondering if he is as vicious as he appears. Will he eventually get to me ??? What about West, which sense of humour cracks me up, Gen, Peter, David ? They all are such interesting personalities they could gettheir own books.

Road to Ruin is about family ties, revenge, retaliation, power. There are numerous characters, which is a bit unsettling at first, but the story flows, perfectly, seamlessly, every piece of the puzzle clicking into place as the intrigue unfolds.
It is fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat all along, until the last page that left me dying for more.
