My rating: 3 of 5 stars
A fabulous cover and a title that piqued my curiosity...I had to read this book. I've heard great things about Mrs Olson's work, so I wanted to see for myself!
My mind is still reeling after finishing this short story. The promise of darkness slowly crept on me as the story progressed.
Told from three points of view, Where Sleeping Gods Lie's tone changes in function of the characters.
Angry Kov sets the plot in motion, charming Fai seals the fate, and sweet (meek) Angie is just a casualty in this messed up dynamic.
I'm torn because I like the idea, the mystery kept me wondering and almost bouncing with nervousness.
But, unfortunately, the back story of Kov deserved more development, which would have given more depth to the scenario. I couldn't fully connect to the characters, nor could I get totally invested in the story.
The ending, on the other hand, had me shrinking, screaming, and smiling. It detonated, exploded, was totally what I was looking for. Twisted, depraved, gore, the ultraviolence I was expecting lied there. The epilogue, which didn't really surprised me, gave me goosebumps, The whole book then appeared in a new light.
