OH. THAT. BOOK....

If you think you know what The Rebel Of Raleigh High is about, you are going to be really surprised.  I personally prefer the characters to be older but I couldn't not read Callie Hart's new book. So here we are... and once again it's a win! 

Teenagers. High school. Trouble. But that's only the beginning...

Silver is the black sheep of her school. Since a tragic night 9 months ago, she has been cast out by her friends. Being bullied is her new reality. But Silver is strong, fierce and resilient; she doesn't back down. 

Everything about Alex screams bad boy. The new student of Raleigh High is blunt and determined. And he is also the guy that will make you swoon. Seriously swoon. 

Callie Hart perfectly handled the emotions and feelings of her teenage characters. Between Alex and Silver's pasts, the tone is clearly dark, even if the equilibrium between sweet moments and gritty ones was amazingly handled. Silver's misery, loss, despair and fight touched me.

Slowly but surely, the storyline takes us deeper and deeper into the tragedy. And that's when the magic operated. Even though all the signs were there, the outcome left me speechless. I'm bowing to the audacity and the genius it took the author to explore such a terrible matter. The suspense captivated me, the emotions broke my heart. And the final twist blew my mind.

This is only my second book by Lily White, and if the first one totally gave me the chills, Sin & Discipline brought out completely different emotions. 

This taboo romance (teacher /student) was amazingly handled. The dynamics between Lennon and his protege Amelia are electric from the beginning, rapidly evolving into something deeper and complex.

"All they knew was that I was a stern disciplinarian behind a piano. They didn’t need to know that the discipline didn’t stop when I took a woman to my bed.

When family ties and secrets collide with art and music, I can only enjoy the storyline. I absolutely loved the steamy scenes around the piano. Talk about sensuality! The visual was incredibly sexy. 

"In my opinion, we feel the music first, see it second and hear it last."

Engaging characters with strong personalities, a heart-breaking story, a breathtaking tension, don't wait any longer....Enjoy, ladies!

Confusion flooded me. “What?”

It bothered me how my question came out more as a startled squeak than a word.

The gentle tone of his voice was at odds with his question. “Are you the shitty little thief hiding in a hoodie and baggy jeans? Or are you a musician who demands respect based on her talent and discipline?”

He was enjoying this moment far too much, the truth of his amusement written in the line of his lips, the sleepy look in his blue eyes. It only frightened me more.

“I’m a musician,” I whispered.

Mr. Carter leaned forward and I panicked, my eyes locked to his lips. He shouldn’t have been this close to me. There had to be rules against this. He didn’t seem to care.

I wasn’t a girl to be pushed around or controlled. Yet, in his presence, I stilled in place, unable to find the willpower to fight or move away.

Breath hot against my cheek, he whispered, “I don’t think you are. I think a musician would know better than to risk her hands acting like a stupid hoodrat that robs people. I think a musician knows better than to question the man who will be judging her performance. I think-“

My lips parted on a tremulous breath.

“-you didn’t believe me when I warned you I would spank your ass red if I ever caught you doing something so stupid again.”

There was no question about it; I was three seconds away from passing out.

He knew it and I knew it, his blue eyes locked to mine when he warned, “You should know that threat extends to you questioning me in class as well.”

There are some authors' work you simply can't stay away from. Kailee Samuels is undoubtedly one of them; every time I finish one of her her stories, I long to read the next one.

With Salt Kissed Love, she puts the accent on Iris and Sal's story and, OMG, was it good!!! This couple is fire, danger, heartbreak and whiplash. 

They are messed up, perfectly imperfect, real. They infuriated me, made me cringe and scream, and yet, they are those characters you love and root for, no matter what. The complexity of their couple, the asset versus the target, proved to be challenging, beautiful, intoxicating. And so addicting. Emotionally intense, SKL stirred some strong reactions in me. Jealousy, deceit, doubts, trust issues, betrayal, lust, love, and friendship run the story. Hang on, that is pure craziness.

“I know you heard that,” he says.

“Heard what?”

“Your footsteps are like a heard of elephants.” My gaze snaps to his and I glare. “I know you were listening.”

“You’re just going to let Gabi offer herself up.”

He inhales a deep breath, his broad chest rising and falling. “Your sister isn’t my problem. She contracted me to protect you, not her.”

I frown. “Wait, my father didn’t contract you?” Whatever slight imitation of an expression was on his face vanishes. “I want to speak to him.”

“If you wish to speak to Gabriella, that can be arranged.”

“What? Fine. Let me speak to her.” I hold my hand out for the phone, and he straightens away from the wall, moving past me to the kitchen.

“I’ll arrange it.”

“You literally just spoke to her!”

“Yes.”

“So call her back,” I shout after him.

He ignores me and starts banging around, pulling out various pots and pans from the kitchen cabinets. “Sasha.” Still nothing. I get up and go in the kitchen. His back is to me as he turns on the stove. “Sasha.”

Still he ignores me, and my temper spikes. Anger and frustration at his blatant inability to give a shit bubble over in a red hot torrent. Stepping forward, I grab his arm with the intention of forcing his attention. I get a lot more than just his attention though. The second my palm makes contact with his skin, my back hits the wall and his hand slams around my neck. Those unsettling eyes are completely devoid. Blank. His grip tightens around my wind pipe, and I start to panic. He’s going to kill me. I slap over his forearm, my legs scrambling for purchase. “Sasha,” I manage to choke.

He blinks before finally focusing on me. A confused frown blankets his features, as though he can’t recall getting here. His grip loosens enough for me to suck in a deep breath, but he doesn’t release me. Instead, the tiny space between us closes, until his chest is plastered to mine, crushing my body. Warm breath fans over my face, and I twist my head to the side, avoiding that glacial gaze of his.

“I cannot decipher whether you are ignorant or simply stupid,” he says.

I try to buck away from the wall and he shoves me back so hard that my skull thuds against it. “Let go of me.”

His free hand grips my jaw in a bruising hold, forcing me to look at him. “I told you not to touch me, and yet here we are, Malyshka.”

“I want to talk to my sister.”

Those cold eyes sweep over me and a sickening shiver travels down my spine. I imagine he’s picturing snapping my neck. “What you want is of little consequence.” He shoves away from me, taking a deliberate step back. “You are insolent. Your childishness will be your downfall.”

The words cut far deeper than they should, and what little air is in my lungs, leaves in a rush. I turn and walk away without a word, rubbing over my aching throat. I have to get out of here and away from him. Though I know it’s a lot easier said than done. I feel like a mouse trying to wriggle out from under the paw of a lion. The odds are not in my favour.
