POPPY by Kailee Samuels: Arc Review
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
"There must be good things on the other side of bad."
Kailee Samuels is still a rather new-to-me author, but each time I open one of her books I'm awestruck by her talent. In Poppy she delves into the psyche of Poppy, a young woman who dreams of leaving her life of abuse under her mom's roof. Working as a waitress when she isn't studying, she meets Kane during one of her shifts. 20 years her senior, he charms and seduces her and in no time, brings her to his home, where she meets his 4 years old son, Abel. Poppy's life will then be changed forever. Or... will it?
“If you take nothing else away from this, take yourself.”
Poppy is a read that deals with the extremely difficult topic of domestic violence. It is definitely not your typical love story, but rather a story about love and selflessness. Utterly unconventional, highly emotional and incredibly dark, it's an experience I'm not going to forget anytime soon.
I don't know how many times a heart can break but mine broke several times throughout the chapters. I found myself challenged (in a good way) by the level of realism of the story. Besides, the author gave life to characters who touched me and made me think a lot. Poppy fought with with all her being, heart and soul, I couldn't stop fearing for her life. At such a young age, she shows an incredible maturity and a poignant determination to finally break the cycle of violence that surrounds her and Abel.
I felt for Abel from the beginning. His courage and resilience know no limits. The beauty of his and Poppy's bond brought out of me both tears of joy and sadness.
“You’ll get to the top. I promise you. Don’t ever give up.”
Hope and hopelessness, optimism and despair warred all along, in a devastating whirlwind. The brilliant plot and the huge twists and turns absorbed me. If you are familiar with Kailee Samuels' work, then you know that there always is a bigger picture; Poppy is no different. When I eventually connected the dots, it was simply magnificent.
If you haven't experienced this author's world yet, Poppy is the book you need, as it can be read as a complete standalone. Give it a try, grab a bottle of wine and a box of Kleenex, and.... enjoy!
"I was no hero, Abel. I was only your temporary shield."

POSSESSION (PERVERSION #2) by T.m. Frazier: Blog Tour & Review
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
What interesting turns of events!!! Ah! If the end of Perversion left me screaming for more, Possession didn't by any mean quench my thirst! I'm completely addicted to that series...T.M. Frazier's writing once more proved to be one I can't get enough of.
Although I preferred the Trick and Grim from the first book, I discovered and fell for another facet of their personalities, more intimate and dare I say... almost sweet. Tricks's fight and creativity were tested but that woman doesn't lack resources. And Grim's desperate attempt at getting his girl back had a rawness I absolutely loved.
"We’re magnets always being pulled together. Sturdier than cell glass. Stronger than any chain. Deadlier than any bullet."
After the events that took place at the end of the previous book, the war between the three gangs has never been so close to break out.
Action-packed and fast-paced, the blending of emotion and adrelanine was perfectly balanced. Steamy moments and sweet revelations, laced with gun-blazing scenes and jaw-dropping twists and turns make of Possession an enticing read. Emjoy!
“To war. To peace. To prosperity. To death. To life.”
Ps: I would like to give a special mention to Sandy, man, does that man cracks me up!

Excerpt:
Bethany nods to the box, again pressing her finger to her lips. “We will know more when you’re assigned a judge. Until then, we will just have to wait,” she says loudly. She points with her eyes to the item in my hand, then leaves. The object I’m holding is a rock with a piece of paper attached to it by a rubber band. I pull the paper free and flip it over. It’s a note. Stay by the glass, motherfucker! Whatever you do, don’t turn around. PS-You look nice today. Prison blue suits you. The one-piece scratchy uniform I’m wearing is bright orange. What the fuck is all this about? I peer out from my cell. There’s no one in the room now. Not even the janitor. The security camera high in the corner across from my cell, the one that’s usually pointed directly at me, is now facing down toward the floor. Whatever you do, don’t turn around. Okay, so I won’t turn around completely, but curiosity leads me to risk a glance over my shoulder. It’s just a wall. An empty blank wall. BOOM. BOOOOOM! An empty blank wall...that just exploded. The sound resonates through my eardrums. I duck and cover my head with my hands as pieces of cement rain down into the cell. Dust coats my hair and the back of my neck. After a few beats, I stand, waving away the plumes of the aftermath. Through the debris, I can just barely make out headlights. It’s a truck with a battering bar attached to the hood. “All aboard! This train is leaving the motherfucking station. Literally!” shouts a voice. I can’t see who it is through the windshield which is shrouded in what remains of my cell. I don’t have time to ask any questions of the mystery voice. There’s no time to question anything. The passenger door flies open. Two officers appear behind me. One fumbles with the cell keys while the other shouts at him to move faster. It won’t be fast enough. I leap into the truck and slam the door. The tires spin in place for a few seconds until they finally grip the concrete. My head hits the headliner as we reverse over the broken bricks until we’re clear of them and are able to make forward motion. It isn’t until we’re through the field and on the road when I finally get a good look of my getaway driver. “Preppy?” I ask. “What the fuck are you doing here?” Preppy may not be part of any official organization, but he runs a tight ship over in Logan’s Beach. Belly and I have worked with him and his friend King a few times in the past. I haven’t seen Preppy since before he was thought to be dead only to later be rescued from an underground cave where he was held captive for the better part of a year. “Grim? Fuck, I thought I was rescuing Bear. Get the fuck out,” he teases. “Just kidding. If Bear was locked up I wouldn’t help him escape. That fucker could use some ‘me time’ to contemplate his grumpy nature.” He holds the wheel with one hand and straightens his signature bowtie with the other. His white dress shirt is rolled up to his elbows revealing arms heavily covered with both tattoos and angry jagged scars. He lights a joint and tugs on the wheel, making a sharp turn off the road into a dark heavily wooded area. When we’ve made it in far enough to be fully camouflaged by trees and brush, Preppy kills the engine. He passes me the joint, and I take a much-needed hit, holding the smoke for as long as I can before slowly exhaling. “Thanks, man. How the fuck did you get sucked into this?” Preppy types out a text on his phone, then sets it back in the console. “Bethany. I owed her a favor. She got my boy, Bo, out of some trouble recently.” “Isn’t your kid like ten now?” I ask. “What kind of trouble can a ten-year-old get into that needs Bethany’s kind of help?” “He’s eight,” Preppy corrects. “And my boy catches the kind of trouble most kids his age don’t know is out there to catch. My girls are easier. Twin toddlers. Miley and Taylor. The three of them, along with their mama, are the loves of my fucked-up life. Bo’s a good kid. He’s just…well, his brain arrow doesn’t exactly shoot straight. Its target is usually more…” Preppy shapes his hand like an arrow aimed at the windshield, then changes the aim to me. “Human.” He drops his hand. “And the incident in question wasn’t that bad. It may or may not have had something to do with the unfortunate disappearance of a certain…” He waves the rest of his sentence away like there’s a gnat flying around his head. “Let’s just say he’s grounded. VERY grounded. For life. Or like a week. Minimum a few days. Or a day. Maybe, an hour or two. Poor kid. Maybe, I’ll just take him to the movies.” He sighs. “You’ll see. Wait until you’ve got some sex trophies of your own. You’ll understand.” Kids. I’ve never thought of myself with a kid before. I picture Tricks holding a baby in her arms. Our baby. Much to my surprise, I don’t fucking hate it. Although, the thought isn’t helpful to my current situation and only makes me more impatient and enraged. One thing at a fucking time. Sirens wail through the night. Preppy remains cool and calm like he’s driving a parade float down main street, and not at all like he’s running from the law with a fugitive. Blue and red flashes light up the woods. After a few seconds, the vehicles pass, and both the lights and sirens fade off into the distance. “That’s our bat signal. Let’s get you the fuck outta here so I can get home to the missus and eat her cookies.” Preppy pauses, probably realizing his odd choice of words. “I do actually mean cookies. Dre makes a mean batch of chocolate chip.” I stare silently out at the passing trees. “I’m going to eat her pussy, too. You know, after the other kind of cookies. Just so we’re clear.” “Thanks, man. We’re clear. And if you ever need anything and I’m not dead or serving time, I’m there,” I assure him. I mean it. I owe him a debt. A huge one. “Hhhhmmm,” he considers, taking the joint I pass him. “How do you feel about babysitting?” I smile at his joke until I look over at Preppy only to see he’s not doing the same. In fact, it’s the only time in my life I’d ever seen him with a straight face. “I uh…” He looks straight ahead through the scratched and broken windshield. Bits of concrete from our escape attempt cover the dashboard, and some of it is lodged into the glass. “Never mind. You can do me one favor, though.” “Anything within my power. It’s yours.” “Don’t tell King about this,” he says. It comes out as a sheepish high-pitched question. “Why? He wouldn’t want to know that you broke me out?” King was a friend of Belly’s and a good ally to Bedlam. It wouldn’t make sense that he’d be against helping me. I’d do the same for any of them if the roles were reversed. Preppy shakes his head. “Oh no, he knows I broke you out. I just sent him a text to tell him it’s over. The grand escape is complete.” He steps on the gas. “But he don’t gotta know I used his truck to do it.”About the Author

CARDS OF LOVE: THE DEVIL by Ashley Jade: Release Blitz & Review
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
"Sometimes the only difference between love and obsession is a broken heart."
There is one thing you need to know about this book: you want to go in totally blind. I'm so glad I did!
Cards Of Love: The Devil caught my eye with its intriguing blurb, and it intrigued me all along. What started like a taboo romance rapidly evolved into a mysterious plot until every little hint and piece took their place in a bigger picture that left me hung-over and heart-broken.
Don't go looking for heroes, you won't find any. The characters are true devils, but somehow they also grew on me. The characterization is splendid, I felt all their emotions. Their complex personalities , the power games, the manipulations and the betrayals gripped me to no end. The competition between Cain the politician and Damien the rebel were palpable.
My feelings towards them evolved throughout the story. ŔThe amazing progression of the plot got me on pins and needles, the alternating between present and past and the three points of view considerably intensified the suspense.
If you are down for a devilishly twisted and scorching hot read, The Devil is your next read! Obsession and fascination are taken to a whole new level in The Devil. I personally can't wait for The Devil's Advocate...

They'll tell you I seduced them. Used my looks and body to lure them into my playground.
They'll tell you I'm a sinner. A demon who held them captive with temptation and lust.
They'll tell you I'm evil. A monster obsessed with the both of them.
They'll tell you they made a deal with the devil.
What they won't tell you...is how much they liked it.

TORN (Dark Lagacy #2) by Natasha Knight: Release Blitz & Review
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
“When this is over, I’ll still want you. I love you. And I’m warning you to run like fucking hell because you’re right. This isn’t going to end well for you. For me. For any of us.”
Second Installment in the duet, Torn starts off where the maddening end of Taken left us. With Lucinda still the troll we knew her to be, the entroductory scenes plunge us right away into the darkeness .
But there was also such a sudifferent vibe to this book!!! It was really surprising and never would I have expected these turns of events. And in that matter, the title is pure perfection. TORN. That is exactly how the characters felt, and by extension, how I felt. Torn between what should be done and what is expected (I'm not telling you which is which, though). Torn between the rivalry and the jealousy of the brothers. And then Torn between Helena's contradictory emotions.
"Life isn't fair."
I know I'm being vague but it would be disappointing to have the plot spoiled when it's so neatly and thoroughly executed. The author played with the angst and the growing suspense all along. From the beginning of the series I was pretty sure I wouldn't ever fall in love with Sebastian, least of all Greg, but eventually Natasha's talent worked wonders and her anti-heroes eventually grew on me, until my heart broke for Greg, and pounded at the idea of Sebastian. Helena stayed strong and I'm glad the Scafoni didn't tarnish her beautiful mind. I absolutely loved the way she adapted and her resilience. They ALL are incredibly interesting characters, multi layered and Torn by both families, the Willows and the Scafonis, the weight of their history and traditions.
"I'm angry at all of them. [...] I can't forgive them. Not yet. Maybe not ever."
I hope that you ladies will have as much pleasure reading this gritty, sexy (hell, who am I kidding?) scorching hot and raw conclusion as I did! Enjoy!

PREACH by Stylo Fantome: Release Blitz & Review
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Speechless. Truly, my mind has been blank since I finished Preach a few hours ago. What was that? What exactly happened here?
Emma has been hospitalized after her suicide attempt. Church disappeared to New-York two days later, leaving her to deal with her awful mom, Margo, the mysterious Jerry, her stepdad, Ryan whom she met in therapy and her two therapists Dr. Rosenstein and Drew Casperian.
With this second installment and conclusion to Church and Emma's story, Stylo Fantome thoroughly explored the craziness of her characters. She delved into their psyche, dissected their minds. It was absolutely wrong and gritty, and at the same time utterly fascinating: I basked in the darkeness and the depravity of Church and Emma's actions.
The way Emma grew up and matured in Preach was surprising, her reasoning very interesting. Therapy helped her to have a better understanding of her issues. But that's where the true mindfuck also started. Manipulations and addictions were used over and over, bboth by Emma and Church, running in circle until I almost lost track of who was the mastermind and who was the puppet. Jaw-dropping twists and psychological games kept me alert, always on the edge of my seat, ready to fall or to bolt, I wasn't sure which. With some dark humour to top the ominous and cold atmosphere, the bloody cocktail was ready to be served and savoured.
Enjoy, if you dare, because that series is serioulsy messed-up. It deals with difficult matters and it's a disturbing ride down the darkest urges and pulsions of the mind. It's brilliantly executed, enhanced by convincing side-characters. The doubts and struggles felt almost smothering, and the danger and suspense had me biting my nails until the end.
I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!
