I can't remember.

Crazy woman from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ... forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

UNHINGED by Natasha Knight: Cover Reveal

Title: Unhinged
Author: Natasha Knight
Genre: Dark Mafia Romance
Cover Design: Shanoff Formats
Release Date: September 25, 2017

Blurb

Eve

Two years ago, I made a deal with the devil. That night, I lost everything. That night, I thought he’d died.

But he’s back. Risen, like Lazarus, from the dead. And he’s dark. Darker than he was before. More dangerous. Unhinged. A scarred, tattooed savage.

The way he looks at me, it should terrify me, but I’m drawn to him, to his intensity. Consumed by it. By him. Even though I know if I’m not careful, his obsession will destroy me.

Zach

I should have died that night two years ago. My mistake cost my men their lives. It should have cost me mine. But I survived. And the day I learned she did too, I made it my mission to find her.

I sought her out. Tracked her. Shadowed her every move. I’ve been inside her home. Eaten her food. Drank her liquor. I’ve stood beside her bed and watched her sleep.

She has so many secrets, and I know one of them. It’s the one where our pasts collided. The one that destroyed me.

And it’s the reason I’ve come for her.

I never intended to touch her, but I did. And now that I’ve had a taste, I want more. I want her. But that won’t change why I’m here. It won’t change why I came for her.

MUSCLE MEMORY by stylo Fantome: Review + Release Blitz

Muscle MemoryMuscle Memory by Stylo Fantome
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Keep running. Look for her. Remember her. Find her."

Stylo Fantome doesn’t cease to amaze me as each new release has a different feel, a different approach.

Muscle Memory isn't dark per se but the characters go through really dark moments. What it is, though is raw.

Stylo's writing is excellent, alternating present and past gives a rythm that kept me captivated all along .
The way she handled Jon's amnesia is beautiful and felt really realistic. That's maybe why it made me a tad uncomfortable: I could totally feel Jay/Jon and Del's feelings and emotions.

Although they were happy and in love, their relationship was toxic, neither of them helping the other to break their spiralling to hell. So, of course, when they finally hit rock bottom, it hurt. Real. Bad. Reading about them at that moment of their lives was heart-wrenching. It poses the question of what do you want in life, how do see yourself in the future. Jay and Del were young, reckless and carefree. They loved hard but lived without thinking about the consequences of their actions, with no care for what tomorrow would bring, except for the little money they need in order to have fun.

The characters were lovable in their imperfections. I couldn't help but feel for them all, whether it is for Jay, Del, or Kitty. Life isn't perfect, people aren't perfect but the way those characters move on in spite of whatever life threw at them is really inspiring.
“Do you know what that feels like? To not be a real person? To not be whole?”“Yes, Jon. Yes, I know what it feels like to not be whole.”

Muscle Memory is a phenomenal second chance novel; the concept of a love your head can't maybe not remember but that is engraved in your body and soul, is so poetic, in a story that is so tragic!
"Two strangers faced one another, missing each other already."

EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN: A Novel

BY

Jessica Redmersky

Fiction & Literature | Post-Apocalyptic | Suspense | Romance
683 pages

BLURB:
Thais Fenwick was eleven-years-old when civilization fell, devastated by a virus that killed off the majority of the world’s population. For seven years, Thais and her family lived in a community of survivors deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. But when her town is attacked by raiders, she and her blind sister are taken away to the East-Central Territory where she is destined to live the cruel and unjust kind of life her late mother warned her about.

Atticus Hunt is a troubled soldier in Lexington City who has spent the past seven years trying to conform to the vicious nature of men in a post-apocalyptic society. He knows that in order to survive, he must abandon his morals and his conscience and become like those he is surrounded by.

But when he meets Thais, morals and conscience win out over conformity, and he risks his rank and his life to help her. They escape the city and set out together on a long and perilous journey to find safety in Shreveport, Louisiana. Struggling to survive in a world without electricity, food, shelter, and clean water, Atticus and Thais shed their fear of growing too close, and they fall hopelessly in love. But can love survive in such dark times, or is it fated to die with them?

AUTHOR'S INTERVIEW:

1) How do you plot your novels? Do you outline?
I never outline because I like to let the story and the characters take me where they want to go. Some authors can outline very well and it works for them, but I can’t do it. It has always felt more natural to me to just go along for the ride and see where it takes me, kind of like in real life, I guess. Some scenes in my books were figured out ahead of time, but not ‘planned out’ ahead of time, and there’s a big difference. The only exception to this method is that I do always know my ending before I begin. (Except with my book DIRTY EDEN)

2) Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
I’m impatient. Very impatient. It’s challenging for me to get through the first 23 chapters of every book because I have a bad habit of looking at how much I have left to go. I just want to be done with it already so that my readers can enjoy!

3) When it comes to writing, what are your strong points? What are your weaknesses?
I love to write dialogue. It feels and flows more natural to me. I feel like I struggle a little more with description, because I’m impatient and sometimes it feels like the description is slowing me down. But I pace myself! If I didn’t, the entire novel would be one giant conversation.

4) Tell us a little about why you write in so many different genres. Does it work for you?
I can’t stick to one genre. I love writing all types of stories. Does it work for me? Yes and no. Yes, because I’d start to feel claustrophobic if I had to write in the same genre all the time. No, because I think it confuses my readers that I write everything under the same author name. I regret that decision to this day. My advice to authors considering it: Don’t make this mistake!

5) What is your favorite part of the writing process?
The last sentence. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love getting into the story, living out my character’s lives, but there’s nothing like a finished manuscript. It’s a huge accomplishment and I doubt I’ll ever tire of it.

6) Fans of your In the Company of Killers series are wanting to know why it’s taking so long to release book #7. Can you give us some information on it?
I do get this question everyday it seems, but it’s so hard to reply to everybody. I’ll do my best to explain what’s going on with book 7 right here. So here goes! I’m 100% dedicated to that series, and I know it’s frustrating that after six books, it’s taking a longer-than-average time to publish the seventh. But I need everyone to understand that not only have I been going through a lot of personal things the past year-and-a-half that prevented me from writing much of anything, but also, I just needed to take a step back and finish EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN before I tried to tackle any other book. EUtS has been a work-in-progress going on, I think, almost three years now. No matter what else I tried to write, EUtS kept looming in the back of my mind, and it was affecting my current works-in-progress (book 7 included). I knew that if I didn’t just put everything else aside and finish EUtS that my other books would, quite honestly, be shit. Not all writers are the same, of course, but I’m one of the ones who absolutely must work on the book that’s taking up the most space in my heart and mind, instead of the one everybody is waiting on. But I promise, I’ll be back to work on SPIDERS IN THE GROVE soon! Just please be patient with me. 😊

7) Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you
about their work?
I don’t have a favorite – I have several! Anne Rice and Neil Gaiman I have admired for many years. I love Rice’s deep, descriptive style and Gaiman’s unique ideas. But I also love Paullina Simons and Cormac McCarthy – there are just so many! And, of course, there’s J.K. Rowling, but I don’t really have to name her, do I? Isn’t she everybody’s favorite by default? 😊

8) You stated that you were going to write Lily’s book (from THE EDGE OF NEVER) – is that still a certainty?
I do still intend to write Lily’s book, but at this time I can’t estimate when that might be.

Nate by Celia Aaron : Release Blitz + Review

NateNate by Celia Aaron
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“This isn’t about deserve, this is about need. I don’t know what I deserve, but I know I need you ."

I've been curious about Nate since I met him in Dark Protector, and when I found out in the book blurb that Sabrina was going to be the heroine, I was really excited.
The story takes places 5 years after Nate rescued Sabrina. Being at the head of the Genoa empire seems to have changed him, he lost his playfulness and faces the responsabilities that come with his new status. Focused on his business, he never expected his little protegee to shake his life, to awake such feelings in him. When a broody, violent, merciless Nate succumbs to a sassy, bratty, feisty Sabrina (15 years younger than him), things get scorching hot!!! The chemistry between them is incredible, no matter how hard Nate fights it, they have been bound to each other from the moment Nate saved Sabrina.
"Our souls had met five years ago and whispered about each other ever since."

With a mob war as a background, this book is a true page turner. Once started I couldn't put it down. It's fast paced, alternating between romance and action scenes.
I absolutely loved the tone and the atmosphere, with totally badass characters you are going to fall for.
Sexy moments, sweet declarations, hilarious bantering, gunfires, and kidnapping brought a fireworks of emotions and kept me enthralled all along.

I rescued Sabrina from a mafia bloodbath when she was thirteen. Doing right by her became a priority for me, even while I was busy as the new head of the Philly syndicate. I sent her to the best boarding schools and kept her as far away from the life as possible. It worked perfectly. Until she turned 18. Until she came home. Until I realized that the timid girl was gone and in her place lived a smart mouth, a wicked imagination, and a body that demanded my attention. Who am I? I’m F*cked. Nice to meet you.

MERCY by Debra Anastasia: Release Blitz + Review

MercyMercy by Debra Anastasia
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Debra Anastasia delivers with this book a very surprising story with a gripping plot and amazing characters.
Mercy isn't a dark read, as I thought it would be in the beginning, although it starts out with a very sad and dark scene.
It's a love story between two people who were made to be together from their childhood.
Fenix vowed himself to protect Becca and make her happy (without her being even aware of it), and he will stop to nothing to keep his promise. Inked with a skeleton from head to toe, his apparence is of the most intimidating and scary. He deals with mobsters, is a skilled assassin, a hot alpha hero. But what made me love him so much is this sweetness tenderness, and protectiveness he shows toward his people. Under the shell he wears, he is very sensitive and his vulnerability made me want to cuddle him.
"God, he broke my heart. He held that stance like he was used to disappointing people. Being rejected."

Becca is a fierce woman, she is strong, sassy and fun. She knows what she wants, how to get it. Her attraction to Nix is undeniable, I loved their chemestry and their unique relationship. She is caring, forgiving, and no matter the difficulties, positive. She trusts her instincts, follows what she feels seems right. She is a beautiful heroine, inside and outside, but when she finally decides to let go and be herself, she becomes exquisite. Really badass!
"The quality in her that gave her the courage to speak when others held their tongue— she wore that on her skin now."

Seing Nix and Becca's affection blossoming is exciting; Mixed with a good amount of action, danger, bantering, the story quickly becomes addictive.
"I never knew how much I needed a hand inked with bones holding mine. Until now."

This author is new to me. I enjoyed the tone of this book as well as her writing. I can't finish my review without talking of Becca's, and most importantly Nix's friends. Friendship is an important theme in this book. I loved the way the characters take care of, know and understand each other. Henry is a very interesting number, lol, but Animal! Wow!!! I just can't wait for his book!!!

MERCENARY by Michelle Horst Review

MercenaryMercenary by Michelle Horst
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mercenary isn't an easy read, if you are familiar with Michelle's work, then you know she isn't afraid to flirt with the dark side. But she knows how to bring sweet moments in her stories, which I loved in this novella. It's short, but brings out many feelings, such as angst, sorrow and guilt, then you'll see the heroine, Olivia little by little come back to life and it's simply magical.
I particularly loved that message of hope that beautifully sums up the book:
"Sometimes you need to be consumed by darkness so you can shine a light on another’s darkness. Sometimes you need to be broken so you’ll understand the pain of another."

FILTHY: A DAMAGED ROMANCE by Michelle Horst

Filthy: A Dark Romance (A Damaged Romance Duet, #2)Filthy: A Dark Romance by Michelle Horst
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Filthy is the second book in the Damaged Romance duet, although you can choose to read it as a standalone. This installment focuses on Sophia and Adam's story. Being in their heads was an intense experience since Sophia's past is really cruel and sad and Adam has his demons, as well.
After being set free from slavery, Sophia is overwhelmed, not knowing what freedom even means, she can't wrap her mind around this concept. She feels alone, rejected, has no goal anymore, after all, she was conditionned to have one and only purpose in life: please her masters.
Adam is a beautiful character, conflicted toward Sophia's struggles, wanting to protect her, to teach her how to live and enable her to make her own choices. As their connection is obvious and their complicity grows a little more each day, Adam needs to be sure that Sophia has feelings for him too and that her reaction to him isn't one due to a conditioned reflex.
Dark stories lovers, this dark and raw story will sometimes make you cringe but you'll enjoy the characters' evolution.
